Sparathon 2008

Sunday 20th January 2008 saw members of the Garrison & Kimpton Taekwondo Schools give up their Sunday afternoon to participate in a sponsored sparathon in aid of Salisbury Hospicecare Trust.

Members were required to compete in 60 one-minute continuous sparring bouts. Spurred on by a crowd of enthusiastic supporters, everyone took to the task and, judging by the amount of flushed faces and perspiration at the end, it was no mean feat to complete the event!

Thanks to the kindness of the Tidworth Leisure Centre, who donated the hall space for the event, members were able to raise a magnificent £1700 for the Hospice.

Instructor Barry Storton, who hosted the event said, “My mother and uncle were cared for at the Hospice and so I know first hand about the tremendous work the staff and volunteers do there. I am delighted that so many members have turned out to support this fund raising event and in contributing to this fantastic total – on behalf of the Hospice may I thank you all so much”.

A particular mention must go to Ian Ling, Lorraine Ryall, Joshua Hardy, Steve & Harry Randles, Neil & Mark Sanderson and Barry Storton who all raised in excess of £100 and a special mention to David Standidge who raised a superb £245.

Further fund raising events will happen later in the year, including a raffle for a rather unique prize!
